It gave way to a new form of “#hybridlearning” which opened the possibilities of remote/online classrooms. All of us today, have an opportunity to learn, seek and excel in our passion/interest sitting in our homes itself, thanks to the technology and online video conferencing platforms !

Encouraged by her mother, Poornima started dancing at the age of 4 and was initiated into Bharatanatyam by Smt. Kalanilayam Thankam. The dancer in her blossomed under the tutelage of Smt. Shobanaa Bhalchandra, the youngest of the trio sisters, one of the earliest disciples of the famous dancing duo, Padmabhushan The Dhananjayans. Poornima later had the privilege to take few mastering sessions from Padmabushan Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan. Later during her work stint in Kalakshetra, Chennai, she was also blessed to attend sessions under Padmashri Smt. Leela Samson.
The Performer: Poornima is a B grade artiste with Doordarshan. She has travelled both inside and outside India and performed on various venues and enlightened dance connoisseurs around the world. Her notable performances includes:
Performed as part of “Thirumurai – an exploration if Thevarams” on the occassion of Mahasivarathri 2021
“Samarpana- an offering of Natyam”, online programme by fellow dancemates from the Middle East, under the able guidance and tutelage of Guru Smt. Shobanaa Bhalchandra.
Performed for the “Astanaayika series”, directed by Guru, Smt. Shobanaa Bhalchandra.
Choreographed freshly written songs of 40 min long dance drama, “Sronam” (September 2019)- an untold version of Mahabali‘s story, based on Bhagavatham with about 15 different characters on stage in two scenes. The complete direction, lyrics, music composition, recording, editing and choreography of “Sronam” was done in Al Ain itself.
Blessed to perform at Thirupathy Temple for “Nada Neeranjanam”
Blessed to perform during Shivaratri festivals at Thiruvaroor, Chidambaram, Sukhavaneshwar and Peroor Shiva temples.
“Sangamam 2008” conducted by BITS Pilani.
“The Other Festival” in Dec.2006, under the guidance of Choreographer Harikrishna, Indance Company, Canada.
“Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Manram”- an effort by the State Govt. to promote performing arts, to perform at Chennai, Karur, Karaikudi & Gobichettipalayam.
Winner of “Thaka Dhimi Tha” show aired on Jaya TV directed and conceptualised by Smt. Radhika Shurajit. Also did the title song for the same show.
Performed at Star Asia Group, Tokyo, as the sole reprasentative of the country, to do a solo presentation of Bharatanatyam in Tokyo.
Performed at the 29th National Festival at the Music Academy, Chennai
under the Spirit of Unity Concerts for Universal Intergration.
The Tutor: Poornima’s wide performing experience encouraged her to take up to teaching which started under the Alma mater, Tharanginee School of Dance run by her Guru at the age of 17. In the years to come she started her own schools in Nigeria, Oman and Al Ain, U.A.E. Poornima has tutored young dancers starting from the age groups of 7 to enthusiastic and passionate 48 year old adults. She has also trained underprivileged children voluntarily, in “Saadhya school for special needs” Coimbatore, by using dance as a therapy for physical and mental strengthening.
